Installing BlockID Admin Console

Overview

This document describes the procedure to install and configure the BlockID Admin Console application.

Prerequisites:

You will need the following resources and privileges to complete this installation:

  1. EC2 instance on AWS (Amazon Cloud) installed with
    • Server: Linux OS preferably, RHEL 7 and above
    • RAM - 2 GB (Minimum)
    • Tomcat server - 8.5
    • JAVA version - 1.8.0_252 or higher

Permissions:

  1. BlockID Admin Console installation file (.war file) (please contact your 1Kosmos team to get the installation file.)
  2. Access to client’s DNS (website) URL
  3. Outbound Internet Access and permission to communicate with the tenant URL on TCP port 80, TLS port 443, and UDP port 1812.

Installation Steps:

  1. Place the BlockID Admin Console installation (.war) file on the Tomcat server at the following location:
    /opt/tomcat/webapps/.
  2. Start the Tomcat server. This will deploy the war file successfully.
  3. Open the web browser, enter the client’s DNS (website) URL that is http://<CLIENT_DNS> in the address bar, and press Enter. The 1Kosmos - BlockID - Configuration Wizard screen is displayed.

  1. In the 1Kosmos - BlockID - Configuration Wizard screen:
    • Server Information tab: In this tab, the values of the fields will be selected by default.

      • Company Name: This field’s value is 1Kosmos.
      • Custom Product Name: BlockID.
      • FQDN of the Server: This is your client’s DNS URL.
      • SSL Everywhere on/off: Select the checkbox to turn it ON. If the option is selected then, all HTTP requests get redirected to HTTPS. If the option is not selected then, the redirection will not be done, and the request will be forwarded as HTTP requests only. To enable this feature, we first need to install the HTTPS SSL certificate (this needs to be purchased by the client) on the EC2 instance.
    • Click Next.

    • Server Information tab:

      • First Name: Enter the first name of the primary contact person of your customer.
      • Last Name: Enter the last name of the primary contact person of your customer.
      • Company Phone Number: Enter the contact number.
      • Country: Select the country name.
      • Company Email Address: Enter the email address of the contact person.
    • Click Next.

    • Authentication Configuration tab:

      • Authentication Source: Select the tenant-specific directory option from the following options:
        • Microsoft Active Directory
        • Lightweight Directory Server
        • 1Kosmos User Directory
      • Add the directory details in the following fields for the selected directory option from the above list of directories.
        • Server Protocol: Select the appropriate option.
        • Server: Enter the IP address of the directory server.
        • Port: Enter the port number.
        • Bind User DN: Enter the user of the directory structure.
        • Bind User Password: Enter the password to enter into the user directory.
        • Organization’s Base DN: Enter the base DN details of the user directory.
        • Search Control: SUBTREE SCOPE
        • Authentication Method: SIMPLE
        • Users Search Attribute:
          • Enter samAccountName, if you have selected the Microsoft Active Directory (AD) option from the Authentication Source option.
          • Enter uid details, if you have selected the Lightweight Directory Server (LDAP) option from the Authentication Source option.
        • User Search Filter: user for AD and inetOrgPerson for LDAP.
    • Click Next.

    • Click Finish. The logs will be generated for the installation of the BlockID Admin Console. The pop-up window is displayed with the Installation Successful. Please click OK to proceed. message. The location for the log file is /opt/tomcat/logs/catalina.out. Run the below-mentioned command on the server to monitor the logs while installing the BlockID Admin Console:
      tail -f /opt/tomcat/logs/catalina.out

    • In the pop-up window, click OK. You will be redirected to the login screen of your tenant’s BlockID Admin Console URL. (Same as the DNS URL)

Important:

If the installation is not done properly or you will not get redirected to the login screen then, in this case, you need to reinstall the BlockID Admin Console.

Test the Connection:

In the BlockID Admin Console’s login screen, enter the administrator’s login credentials of the user directory selected in the Authentication Configuration tab of the installation process, and click Login. The login credentials will be authenticated against the added user directory details and grant access to the BlockID Admin Console upon successful authentication.

Troubleshooting Steps:

If the installation is not done properly, you will get redirected to the install screen i.e., the 1Kosmos - BlockID - Configuration Wizard screen.

  1. Check the Prerequisites and Permissions sections to know what resources, privileges, and permissions you need to install the application.
  2. Check the logs generated while installing the BlockID Admin Console. The location for the log file is /opt/tomcat/logs/catalina.out
  3. Perform the installation steps to reinstall the BlockID Admin Console.
